When Hollywood goes dark,
humanity steps in.

Neighbor helping neighbor. At scale.

Our story ↓
LA always showed up.

We just made sure it never has to stop.

Los Angeles has been through it. Fires that took whole neighborhoods in a night. Streets where people have nowhere to sleep. Animals separated from the people who love them.

But every time it gets bad, something else happens too.

Strangers lead horses away from the fire. Neighbors show up with trailers before anyone called. A blue VW van sits untouched in the ash and becomes the symbol of a whole city holding on.

That impulse — to show up, to help, to not look away — it’s always been here. Kindr LA just makes sure it never has to stop.

The mission
“To mend Los Angeles — one act at a time — by connecting every person who needs help, every person who can help, and every system that exists to serve them, into one platform built on dignity, transparency, and love.”
The four pillars

One platform. Every part of the city.

Kindr LA connects the people who need help, the people who can give it, and the systems that are supposed to be working — into one place that actually works.

Homelessness Response

Text HELP. Get real options.

An AI-powered SMS line gets real shelter options in 60 seconds. Pet-friendly shelter finder, benefits matching, a secure document vault, and a peer navigator network — paid roles for people with lived experience.

Fire Hydrant & Safety Network

What failed in January doesn’t fail again.

A live hydrant map, instant field reporting for firefighters, AI-generated inspection schedules, and red-flag weather alerts that flag at-risk hydrants automatically.

Animal Welfare

If they have a pet, the pet’s in the story too.

Pet-friendly shelters, emergency fostering matched in hours, a free vet care finder, and stray and injured animal reporting. No version of Kindr LA exists without this.

Blight & Community Cleanliness

Report it once. It gets fixed.

Photo reporting that routes itself to the right department, duplicate reports merged automatically, volunteer cleanup coordination, and a closed loop — you’re told when it’s resolved.

Dignity Exchange

Not charity. A real economy built on dignity.

A network of LA restaurants offering meals, coffee, and sometimes cash in exchange for simple tasks — sweeping, prep work, sorting deliveries.

  • No separate entrance. Everyone walks in the same door.
  • No ID required, ever. A name — real or chosen — is enough.
  • The meal comes first. Never withheld until work is done.
  • No task that humiliates, ever.
  • Pets are partners. If you bring an animal, the animal eats too.
  • A “no work today” option always exists.
For LAFD, DWP, and the Mayor’s Office

The dashboard the city didn’t have in January.

The Palisades Fire showed what insiders already knew — hydrants fail silently and the systems don’t talk to each other. Kindr LA gives every agency a real-time, shared view.

Fire Chief Command Dashboard

Live hydrant status by district, pulled from LADWP GeoHub. Field reports from firefighters route straight to DWP. Digital flow-test logging replaces paper GPM records. Red-flag weather alerts surface at-risk hydrants before the next fire — not after.

Government Transparency Dashboard

Real-time city spending across homelessness, fire safety, animal services, and blight. Cost-per-outcome metrics. Anomalies flagged in plain English. Every active contract public, flagged the moment it’s over budget or underperforming.

The data is already public record. Kindr LA just makes it readable.

The rules that never change

When it gets complicated, this is the answer.

  • Free for people in crisis, always. No ads. No data sold. Ever.
  • The image shows the human, not the crisis. Dignity is non-negotiable.
  • Animals are always included, full stop.
  • Plain English only. If someone at 2am in crisis can’t understand it, we rewrite it.
  • The work speaks. We don’t narrate our own goodness.
  • Formerly homeless people are paid contributors, not case studies.
